Oooh!! Exciting!! I’ve been waiting to get to this point, where we get to see what makes Illaryn Jayd special. In Chapter 1, in her very brief introduction, I wanted it to just look like they were energy weapons she was using. But here we find out that it’s something more, that she can actually conjure the armor and weapons.
If you look closely, you can see Jayd’s body beneath the armor. I actually penciled and inked all the armor on a separate piece of tracing paper. I thought that would be the easiest way for the colorist to work with it and allow for the most versatility as far as playing with layer opacity in Photoshop to get the intended effect. It did add a bit more time and complication to the art stage for me (especially in the coming fight sequence in Chapter 3), but I think the effect was worth it!
Next up will be more Bonus Content posts, followed by a New Year’s Eve’s Eve break on December 30, so no new post that day. I just figured the new year would be a good, clean place to launch the start of the next chapter. See you then for Chapter 3!!
This is definitely like Tech Armor from Mass Effect! I like her Armor! This is awesome! 🙂
It’s a neat effect!
An awesome way to close the chapter and get excited for the next one.
So a little bit of bad news. There will be a slight story hiatus for the month of January 2022 while I get back on schedule, and the series will post once a week instead of twice when it does return. More info can be found in my recent post: https://runnersuniverse.com/2021/12/runners-vol-3-ch-2-done-and-january-break/. I’m pretty bummed about not being able to stay ahead in the schedule, but I’m still super happy to be doing the story in an ALMOST regularly dependable fashion!
