In all of these scenes, the laser bars can sometimes be very difficult to work around, art-wise. Although a little transparent, the bars are still a blocking element for anything behind them, and I never want them to block key elements, especially parts of the face. So in each case, I have to find a spacing that accommodates the faces and other key elements, while also still being somewhat consistent across all the panels.

In panels with just one character, it’s not too difficult. But in panels with multiple characters, it can be tricky finding the best spacing so that EACH character has their eyes and mouths visible. A rare exception is on this page in panel 4, where the spacing covers up Hiura’s lower face. In this case, it was more important to show her reaching for her gun, since that becomes a big part of this scene. So keeping that element clear became the main factor in spacing the bars out.
