Timelines are a bit hard to keep straight in split storylines. While the order of the rogue (Hiura) story was set, where the different parts could be inserted into the runners (Roka) story was not, so I ended up moving all the rogue bits around quite a bit. This scene was supposed to start with Azarek just having woken up from being knocked out. But then I realized a LOT of time had passed in the runners story, so it would have been weird for him to have been unconscious for that long. Luckily, it was a very easy fix to just have him comment about sitting there neglected for quite some time.
This sequence introduces yet another member of Hiura’s crew, Ozomo. It’s a little bit of a bummer that for her first appearance, she’s obscured repeatedly by the energy bars. I guess I’ll have to make it up to her elsewhere.
As a side note, I’m REALLY happy with the pink tint lighting that Wes did in this sequence. In my own coloring, I haven’t played too much with tints and lighting effects, so in working with more experienced colorists for this volume, I was hoping they’d be able to bring that sort of thing to the book more. And I dare say they have!
A thousand times ey? Guess I’ll have to offer myself a thousand and one times.
Azarek took a course at the Johnny Bravo Charm school.
The colouring looks great. I like the hint of glow at Hiura’s close up and the transparency of the energy bars.
1001 should do the trick for Azarek! Luckily he isn’t going anywhere soon, so he’s got plenty of time to chip away at Hiura. It’ll be the Sam and Diane storyline for RUNNERS!
I have to admit, if I had a senseless dead weight arm, those energy bars might be less of a hindrance. Slip it into the path of the lowest bar as I slide under, letting it take all the damage as it shielded the rest of me.
Also, the bars are not normally pink, Ozomo spent days calibrating them to be that color because she read a book on color theory and wanted bounties to feel isolated, tired, and hopeless.
We’ll see if Azarek formulates an escape plan. Who knows? Maybe he’s a heavy drinker and is used to being tossed in the drunk tank on occasion.
I like you’re thinking about the energy bars. Maybe Ozomo has calibrated each one differently so the entire room looks like a bunch of Skittles when lit.
