In the original script, Goshen just comments on the volatility of the Crush and his desire to burn it all, but he didn’t actually do anything with it. When it came time to draw the sequence, I felt like there had already been plenty of talk, so I wanted to show a little action to cap off the scene. So I tweaked the sequence to have Goshen actually breaking off the chunk and throwing it into the fire to cause the big explosion. Plus, pairing the visual with the statement makes the statement that much more powerful that just the words alone.
As a random footnote, Goshen in the name of a town in Western Massachusetts. While living in MA, I came across the name and just thought it would be a nice fit for the village leader character when I was writing this arc. In general, names seem to come from the weirdest places with me.
There’s also a Goshen here in Connecticut.
There isn’t a Goshen here in Nevada. But there are ones in California, Oregon, Idaho, and Utah, so only Arizona allows for a Goshen-less escape route.
And on the next ‘deleted’ page Clem had to restrain Goshen from throwing Keyla in the fire…
Nice sequence on this page and good job on the coloring.
I do wonder how the second panel would have looked without the blue coloring behind the motion lines.
That third panel is awsome.
There is also a Goshen, Indiana… That would very much fit the description of a town of old goats… ha!
The most famous Goshen however is from the old testament… The Israelites lived there starting at the time of the Patriarch Josheph for some 400 to 500 years in the Land of Goshen… claimed to historically be the most fertile and therefore the most valuable lands of Egypt… Goshen was part of the Nile Delta and was (and still is) the ‘bread basket’ of Egypt… it’s Farms and Ranches fits un-erringly perfect with your Story of the Goat men… I would swear you did your research on all this but… since you claim otherwise… LOL… Great work… Great comic… Great story
Keep in mind that American cities are often named in a potpourri fashion, like Philadelphia, a greek city which was in the Bible. A lot of the older cities are named from places in the Bible (and the newer cities are sometimes named after the old cities, so that makes more cities being named by the places of the Bible, lol). You could even find “North Pole” as an actual town name in Alaska.
So yeah.. in short, cities of USA can be named from ANYTHING random
Pity ANYTHING random isn’t naming a US city. I would have liked to visit Pot Pourri.
lol, but in your country (Norway? Sweden?), the names of the cities follow a pattern of purpose instead of being random. Some people might like that better, plus in a created world (for a book or game), it’s usually a lot more realistic that way.
A plus or a con… lol
Sweden… Yes, on both. (Norway & Sweden & Denmark & Finland has been ruled by the same kings several times, in different combinations.)
It follows from a long history and a pre-monotheism tradition. But you can find asa or shaman belief names too. Mind, old names can be so evolved that the original “purpose” meaning is lost for todays generation.
It’s far to valuable!
Also you set Ge’Ruin’s beard on fire…
“IT BURNS IT BURNS!”
Plus if that little piece has that much oomph, the destruction of it all would probably either A) send Ciceron careening out of its orbit like Gary Busey on a motorcycle or B) make Ciceron pull an Alderaan.
