heheh, I really like panel 2. Something about a giant rock creature trying to use a futuristic iPhone Touch really amuses me…

Funny! Yeah, when designing Bennesaud, I wanted to give him large hands and big rocky fingers. I do wonder just how nimble they are in working with small items or sensitive instruments. Apparently he can hold his own.

I would have loved to keep a running gag going of having him be completely ham-fisted and incapable of any kind of finesse, but I think that would have rendered him useless in a lot of situations, and I wouldn’t want to paint myself into a corner by establishing him as unable to, say, pilot a ship or work a console. So it looks like he does have a fair degree of fine motor control.

That being said, I’m not sure he’d make for a great brain surgeon.

Heh, that would have been great. Imagine him being stuck needing to fly a ship and so he just sort of mashes at the controls, stops when it’s at least going somewhere around the right direction.

Yeah, the very early iterations of the series were much more of a comedy than anything else. So having a character with those limitations would have been a lot of fun in that context. Oh well. Maybe there’s some parallel Runners universe that’s all comedy all the time!

Ha ha. It’s always nice when you can copy a preceding panel and just change a tiny thing like the eyes to save on a little work. But it’s also great to actually have it be effective in creating a fun beat. BTW, it’s been on my to-do list for a while now, but very soon, I’ll finally be replacing all the Vol 1 b&w art here with the newer color pages. Hopefully the process won’t be too wonky.
