I initially gave Cember the tiny fez-like hat to give him that extra little bit of flair. The hat has since become a bit of a calling card for him as a lot of readers seem to like that particular piece of Cember’s personal style. Since creating that look for him, I’ve read about concept artists and writers deliberately giving characters trademark accessories to make them more memorable, like Indiana Jones and his fedora and whip. So maybe Cember’s hat will become a defining visual characteristic. As if the six eyes weren’t enough of a defining look!
I do the same for characters without thinking of it, more in a way of Johnny Bravo having a whole closet of the same outfit, I am going to start thinking of smaller items though.
See, it’s my opinion that there is no vaguely-humanoid character, no matter how strange the base design , that cannot be spiced up with some sort of accessory. I believe the reason for this is that no one has control over their species or general physical appearance, but anything added on to that is a personal choice that can reveal something about their character.
