Roka obviously has the most responsibility as the captain and leader of the group. I wanted to acknowledge that by having him make sure Bocce and Sky were safe (or at least “safe enough”) before ordering the Brimia to bug out. Even while under heavy fire, he’s going to make sure his crew is okay before he looks after himself.
I’m really happy with how panel 4 turned out. I thought it would be a cool visual to see a ship ascending straight up vertically, with another ship matching it and continuing to fire upon it the entire time.
So, is Bocce human? or is he a human-like alien with a cool arm? and if he is human, what happened to his hand? Did he volunteer to get cyborg hand, or did he lose it some how? (like in a light saber battle) What is that thing made of anyway? and finally, where can I get one?
If you can’t answer any of that I’ll happily except “Stop asking me so many questions and just wait for the new issues to come out.”
Bocce is human-ish in that he looks human. But I wouldn’t call him “human” per se as I kinda feel that ties him to Earth. And Earth doesn’t figure into this universe. I suppose it would be like Han Solo in Star Wars being a “Corellian,” whatever the hell that is. He and Luke and Leia all look human, but I don’t know if they’re ever classified as such.
As for Bocce’s backstory, some of that starts to slowly get rolled out in the next story, THE BIG SNOW JOB (which begins in September!). While his complete origin (and the origin of his arm) won’t be fully explained, it will all come in due time.
As for where to get an arm like his, I don’t know. Maybe Walmart?
Corellian is an origination. Han is a Human born and raised on Corellia. Leia would be Alderaanian (prequels or not, birth certificates say she is a citizen of Alderaan by birth :P). You could have an Ortolan born on Chandrila and it would make that person a Chandrilan.
I would say that a more fitting approach would be like what is in the Star Wars expanded universe of Near-Human. Biologically, it’s Human, but there is enough difference to say it is, at the very least, a different sub-species. Not to say that Bocce is Human or Near-Human, especially because when he sees Sky, he does not seem to have any response to something that looks like his species but is bright blue. Which makes me wonder if whatever Bocce is comes in blue or if there are known, related species and one is blue.
All that said, if you have a chance to injure Bocce and show medical scans, you could mix up the organs. Most of us will catch on the subtle clue of “that’s so not the way Humans are set up inside, man he must be able to drink everyone under the table with a three-stage ultra-liver like that.” 😀
I need to go back to looking at the Hammer to build again in lego rather than goof off commenting on aliens. XD
Hatchet, I meant Hatchet.
