Okay, so this really bugs me. In the next few pages, I should have drawn Roka with a holster on the back of his vest belts. Obviously he’s had his gun on him the whole time he’s been in the city station, and since he hasn’t been carrying anything with him, it had to be on him. Up until now, you only see him from the front or side, so it has to be on his back.
On the next couple pages, you get some clear views of his back…and no holster. Which means he whips the gun up out of thin air. It’s a very minor detail that I’m sure no one would ever notice, but I generally try to be careful about those things, so it does bug me a bit.
He couldn’t have been hiding it under his shirt?
I guess that’s possible. Or he had it hidden under Cember’s hat.
lol, what is under Cember’s hat? A nose perhaps?
Nah, clearly Roka hides his gun Schlock-style–in his mouth. It’s the only logical conclusion.
I guess that would explain why there’s no room in Roka’s mouth for all his teeth. 🙂
Minor details are important for the sake of continuity, but, in my humble opinion as a consumer of comics/graphic novels, I find that if the ommission is minor enough, and does not break my immersion in the story, it’s perfectly acceptable.
If you had made a deliberate point of indicating/referencing that Roka holstered his weapon elsewhere it might annoy me, but I’m probably a fairly forgiving reader in that regard. 🙂
Sean – I read your comment here about Roka’s holster, and then read the next few pages to see what you meant. To me it would seem an easy “fix” for Roka to have the holster attached to the inside of the back of his vest. It would easily attach to the two belt straps and he could retrive his gun by reaching up under the lower part of his vest (seen more clearly on page 10).
True, it could be inside the vest, but I feel like there would be a bulge then. I still feel like I should have had a holster on his back, outside the vest, but as other people have mentioned, it’s certainly not a huge deal, so it doesn’t end up bugging me THAT much. Hmm…maybe the 2 belts have some sort of magnetic property where the gun attaches directly to the belts, without the need for a holster. Yeah, let’s go with that! 🙂
