Ha ha. I find it funny and awesome that some readers remember Koala Wally more than Roka or I do! Poor Koala Wally. The Rodney Dangerfield of the RUNNERS crew.
I had to double check to make sure the line was there, and it was! Yay! She had asked for “prevailing rate” to transport them for the actual job. She then mentioned the Amara as compensation for the time spent in prison. So the “double” is referring to the payment for the transport. But who knows, maybe she’ll also push for another ship! https://runnersuniverse.com/comic/vol3-ch5-pg02/
She ABSOLUTELY has a point! Not even Ril, King of Complaining, who literally got SHOT, heavily leans on the “Woe is me” about the subject as much as Roka does!
Not to take that as any kind of complaint, mind you! It’s an absolutely fun little character flaw to play with that not a lot of stories wanna touch on, usually rather focusing on a protagonists’ clinging to guilt as a noble thing, rather then something that can also cause harm to others who were also there and had it hit them differently.
Not that Roka’s grief is any lesser in importance, just he needs to have a better outlet then trying to shoulder ALL of it onto himself, to the point where it boils over and he ACTS like it WAS all on himself.
(Starting a petition for all these characters to have a side issue where they get visit a therapist planet and have a good group talk/cry/hug it out session, LOL XD)
All great points about Roka! It’s a little self-absorbed of him, but it’s also understandable, I think. I’m not entirely sure Ril or Grissom really had any other grand ambitions in life, but Roka was in the pilot academy. For for him to be booted from that and now feeling stuck doing something he never really wanted to do, I think there’s a real sadness to that. But yes, a side trip to therapist planet sounds like it’d be a good thing! 🙂
Killing you Roka? Remember Koala Wally? He actually got killed…
Or: If it wasn’t for me you would have been…
I have sympathy for Grissom, but I feel a line will be crossed sooner or later.

Wasn’t her pay so far the Tique Amara? How would he double that?!
