This sequence starts with a transition from the previous flashback scene. That one ends with a supportive Pahjan vowing to help Bocce and be there for him, and I liked the juxtaposition of opening with Jayd coldly telling Sky that she’s on her own. The angle and composition of characters in the two panels is also deliberately similar.
Like a number of the characters in RUNNERS, Jayd is a bit broken. But she’s not necessarily wrong. In a previous scene, Roka and Ril do exactly what she says they will: look after themselves and discuss cutting Sky loose.
Well, I think that’s unfair to Roka. I mean Ril wanted to get rid of Sky from the very start, but Roka seems conflicted about it. Not to mention having an internal crisis about the life he leads.
And we clearly have three of the crew that still believe in one for all and all for one. Three? Is that intentional? 😉
We know Bocce at least wants to rescue her.
They do what’s in their best interest…
Jayd does not understand, that crew does not have a choice. Their best interests are actively avoiding them. XD Roka and Ril discuss their best interests as a form of coping mechanism, they both know that their best interests are a pipe dream.
