BONUS CONTENT: Sketchbook: Ciceron
More sketches for the look of Ciceron. I really liked the look of the top-heavy mushroom-shaped rock formations, since they seemed very weird and alien to me. Now that I think about it, I never really drew any of the larger free-standing formations. Mostly the rock formations in the story are all of the bigger, mountainous variety. Bummer. Some free standing ones would have been cool to see.
I also did some sketches here for the Ciceron trees. I thought it would be interesting to have trees that develop supporting structures, given the snow loads they have to carry. But early on, I realized that it would be a real bear to try to draw those kinds of trees, especially in the foreground, since they would end up blocking too much of what’s behind them due to their oversized footprints.
Plus you would have to deal with me chattering on about banyan trees.
Oversized – don’t you mean Bunyan trees? (The ones he used for toothpicks, I’m sure.)
I mean banyan as in Ficus benghalensis, because of the support trunks being like aerial prop roots.
Hey! No chattering, remember!? 😀
You tricked me into doing it! I plead the 78th!
(The 78th states that one is not responsible for their actions if they can directly link said action to someone with an “ö” in their name and was created after Jörg Olaffson managed to get the 77th enacted: One must always carry a slice of ham in their breast pocket.)
Tricked? More like goaded with a Kagan Vas stick.
Now it’s my turn to chatter and your turn to deal:
Nice try, but Jörg is more german I believe. (Not that it wouldn’t then be used at times over here [Sweden]).
And Olaffson may be an icelandic Olafson, they don’t always use double -ss- in their patronymic (cf the poet Boddason) as we swedes are wont to do and “Olaf” would presumably be icelandic and/or norse for swedish “Olov”.
If this isn’t sufficiently ethnic for you, I plead the 78th too. Did you know it was followed by the 88th (the one that says -xx- is illegal spelling in 51 states out of 52), solely because the legislator was dyscalculic?
Let’s make that “dyscalculic as well as dyslectic”, since that adds a twist.
It should probably be Ex-Xos, but that makes it sound like a former Xos instead of the prefix to make it an undying Xos. And Ex’Xos is passé because apostrophes are overused to the point that it is considered a Mary-Sue-ism. I could go with spelling it the way it sounds, Ayek Zhose.
I thought the 88th was the forced sterilization of the Duggars to keep them from taking over the continent. As of 2156, they were 38% of the population of North America. But it’s hard to stay up to date on Canamerexican developments when you spend 90% of your time developing dancing, near-sentient space-waffles to colonize Titan. Case in point: we did not hear about the Belize Nuclear Crisis out here until nearly three years after it concluded. And they never did explain how sentient penguins conquered Belize and why they attacked the Ceres mining colony. Holowikipedia only says that it had to do with a trade dispute with the Antarctic Empire.
Sentient penguins is sooo last year. But colonizing Titan!? Do tell!
Ah…Bunyan…like Paul Bunyan. I get it! Nice!
