Kickstarter Sketch Samples

by Sean Wang on January 31, 2013 at 12:13 pm

So I spent yesterday whipping up some samples for the 3 different sketch reward levels for the upcoming Snow Job Kickstarter project. I figure the 3 levels will be for an 8 x 11″ bust sketch (waist-up), an 11 x 17″ single character full body sketch, and an 11 x 17″ two-character full body sketch. “Sketch” may not be the best word since the pieces will be fully inked over the blue pencils, but that’s what I’m calling them for now. Maybe I’ll go with “illustration” instead.  Anyway, backers will be able to choose any character(s) from the series. Or perhaps a space yak, if you’re into that sort of thing. And who isn’t?

Kickstarter Project in the works!

by Sean Wang on January 25, 2013 at 3:24 pm

Due to family issues, the bulk of 2012 got away from me, but things seemed to have settled enough for me to get back to putting together a Kickstarter project to fund the printing of Runners: The Big Snow Job! I’ve spent the last few days researching costs and figuring out all the various reward levels, so I’m happy to report that that’s now more-or-less finalized. It was quite the headache trying to figure out tiers for a book project, where a previous book was also available. Basically, I wanted a number of different options for getting Snow Job (the new book) with various bonuses, but I didn’t want every tier to then have a second option that also included Bad Goods (the first book). That would have made the whole thing unwieldy to navigate, I think. In the end, it looks like a few key reward tiers will specifically include Bad Goods, and for the rest of the tiers, you’ll be able to add money to your pledge to include Bad Goods as an “add on.” That seemed to be the most elegant solution.

Now it’s on to drawing the cover image for the graphic novel…

More updates to come!

“Adapt This” article on IFC

Here’s a fun article I came across a little while back regarding Runners.

Written for IFC.com, Rick Marshall’s “Adapt This” column casts, “the spotlight on a cool comic book each week that has the potential to pack a theater or keep you glued to your television screens.” In the post below, he discusses the idea of adapting Runners as an animated series, including a nod to the 2006 animated short and even some of his voice casting suggestions. Fun!!

My friend David White is an awesome artist who specializes in mecha art (AKA big robots). He put out two artbooks over the last couple years and they are fantastic! If you like robots or just cool technical artwork in general, check out the video link, which features cool, transforming robot animations. And then buy the books, which are chockful of great illustrations and even include drawing tips and tutorials!

New Review on Ain’t It Cool News

Runners: The Big Snow Job just got a great review on Ain’t It Cool News! I’ve been sending preview copies of the story out to review sites with the intention of including some pull quotes in the printed volume, and this review was just posted. Check it out!

In other news, the 6-page epilogue is now completely inked and I will be coloring and lettering it in the next week or two. If I didn’t mention it before, it will be exclusive to the printed graphic novel as a little bonus thank you to everyone dropping their hard-earned benjamins for the printed book. Do people still say, “benjamins?”
