And that’s it for Warsaw. A bit less gory than Uskulon’s demise, but it’s still gotta hurt a bit. As a bonus, on the off-chance that Warsaw was also a space vampire, the stake through the heart should take care of that as well.
This was an important moment for me to do in terms of starting to explore Bocce’s character in a more significant way. Thus far, he’s been the nice guy of the bunch and the whipping boy for the rest of the crew, but I wanted to show that he does have a dark side as well. And I really wanted Sky to witness his actions in order to drive a little bit of a wedge into that relationship. Unless she’s into bad boys. She does have a neck tattoo after all.
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like that moment lost some power when Bocce explained himself to Sky. Maybe it’s what he said, although I think that would work with just silence, or something simple. Heh, the one time I actually dislike something about this, and I can’t articulate what’s wrong exactly.
Many people would feel the need to explain themselves in that kind of situation-unless they truly didn’t care what anyone thought of them. And Bocce doesn’t seem to be that type.
Sky has her own viscious side (not this viscious from what I recall, mind you) so that may be less of a wedge and more of a starting point.
Sky seems more reckless in her shining mode, not vicious.
Judging from her body language I’d say the wedge is there.
I can’t help buy draw parallels between Warsaw and the beetles in Ch 01 Pg 10/11.
All interesting points. Basically, I think Bocce is the kind of person who would feel the need to say something to Sky to justify his actions. But I also wanted to keep it nice and short, as if he didn’t want to really talk about it.
Looking at it again, silence would have been interesting. Keeping all of Sky’s dialog the same, if Bocce wasn’t turning his head in panel 4 and just kept staring down at Warsaw while Sky was talking, and then finally turned his head slightly in the last panel (but still without saying anything), that could have been really powerful. But I also think it would have portrayed a more sinister side to Bocce as opposed to a traumatic and angry side.
As for the Warsaw/beetle parallel, I hadn’t thought about that! Ha ha! Maybe Roka should come along and lift him up by the stake and hold him in front of his face, eyeing him questioningly.
