Some minor details regarding Keyla’s lab: while most of the windows are shuttered, the ones behind her in panel 1 are open. I figure they face the cliff side of the hut, so they’d be inaccessible to anyone from the outside, so open windows would be okay there. There’s also a small bed loft accessible by a short ladder on the left side of panel 1, which is mostly covered up by the word balloons. I figure if Keyla spends a lot of time in the lab, she’d want a place to rest. Hmm…between the cockpit cot in the Khoruysa Brimia that I recently talked about and this one, sleeping areas seem to be a running concern with me. Maybe my body is trying to tell me something.
Also the open windows would perhaps provide a path of least resistance in a lab explosion, focusing the blast over the cliff. Wherever most of her bits fall, there shall she be buried!
One lab I worked in had its own blast pit of reinforced concrete with a counter weighted steel vent pipe to channel the blast. Never heard of needing to be used but was a nice conversation starter.
Yah. Your interest in drawing sleeping facilities says “Gitchur over worked butt to bed, NOW!”
Nope. A chemistry lab has fume hoods (preferably) and no beds (preferably), for safety. But an entry room could have held the cot.
I like the light & shadow work in this page.
I am wondering if the Ulon Dosi have a communal bathing and/or toilet hut. I am picturing a hut built over a hot spring (natural or artificial) for bathing and another hut built over a rock outcropping or downstream river for flushing away waste.
Not that the Ulon Dosi would not have indoor plumbing, just that most would be above ground and drain down from the catch basins and then outside. So for anything more infectious that you wanted to flush farther away, it might be easier to have a dedicated building as to limit digging through rock hard permafrost and setting up a complex sewer system on the highly stratified contours of the area.
Also, the round, open floor plans and likely having evolved from a species of herd animals makes me think the Ulon Dosi take community to a greater extent – whilst evacuating one’s bowels is an okay time to talk with your neighbors and catch up on village gossip.
