With Bocce, I wanted his snow outfit to be very similar in style to his regular clothing. So it sticks to the same black and white palette, with the three wraparound bands at the abdomen. I thought the alternating clasps was an interesting look to go with those three bands.
Bocce’s coat collar is a nod to Star Trek, specifically Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. I love the uniform designs in that movie and really love the jackets/coats that Kirk, McCoy, and Saavik wear when investigating the space station Regula I. The collar here is directly inspired by the collars on those Regula I jackets.
Looking great. I’ve actually been avoiding the site so as to not spoil the story myself before the tpb comes out but I was too curious today.
Love the hot pink medi-boot in light of Bocce’s usually black wardrobe.
Reminds me of Brian Urlacher’s recent comments… “Urlacher has gotten some benefits out of his pink cast – “The girls love it; it’s an aphrodisiac,” he said”
Spock’s jacket in the new Startrek was really cool too.
I like Bocce and Roka facing each other in the last panel. The angle of the shot and the size comparison makes me picture what it would be like to talk to Roka.
Yeah, Roka is a tough one to work with at times. In my earlier designs, he was a bit taller than everyone else, especially with having a big head on a longer neck. But sometimes I found I had to fudge it in shots like these where he faces other character directly, since close shots would end up having characters coming up to the lower part of his neck. I think over time, his neck got shorter to accommodate the difference in heights so that he could have more line-of-sight interaction with everyone else.
Plus all the other characters were complaining to me about their necks hurting from always having to look up to talk to him.
Personally, I just like how Roku’s design reminds me of E. T.
