Hamron’s a tricky character for me. I came up with him back when Runners was going to be a more light-hearted action comedy series. The idea was that Hamron would continue to get more and more disfigured as time went on. Over time, the series has developed into more of an epic in my mind, and as such, I’m not sure that kind of slapsticky gimmick would hold up without feeling too deliberately comedic or forced.
I’m still on the fence on this one. I like the idea of the running gag, and maybe I can find a way to make it work with the more evolved feel of the series. But maybe Hamron will have to evolve as well and I’ll go somewhere completely different with the character. I have to say that’s one of the funnest things about writing an ongoing series…seeing the characters and stories develop in ways you didn’t expect them to in the beginning.
Loved the ending on this one.
Hamron’s such a wussy!
I think you should keep Hamron’s reaction to each tiny nick. You should also keep it at the same level of reaction, ie dismay at the marring of his “perfect” image but not have a cumulative effect. Let him have his “Oh, I’m so ugly!” moment, get mad, create wonderful mayhem, then on to the next incident.
I always did wonder why nobody mentioned plastic surgery to Hamron.
I guess everyone thinks it’s funnier to watch him go completely off the deep end about it. Unless you’re his crew. They probably should have brought it up. 🙂
Man, I love that barkeep.
